Ski Trip info:
- January 1-4, 2007
- Snowshoe, WV
- $225 a person
- This is $25 less than last year!
- $100 deposit due by October 29th
This year we will be staying in a condo on top of Snowshoe Mountain! We will be able to walk out the door and hit the slopes!
Here are the requirements (as passed by the Student Ministry Leadership Team):
- Those who wish to go must attend Sunday School at least 2 times per month and Wednesday Night Bible Study 2 times a month.
- Those who meet these requirements and plan on attending may invite a friend from outside our church to attend as their guest on the trip.
- College Students that are away from home are exempt from this requirement.
- If a student goes to another church for Sunday School, then they may substitute Discipleship Training on Sunday Evenings in place of Sunday School.
- No exceptions will be made for Wednesday Night Attendance since it is the one of the few times that all students are together at the church and is one of the focal points of the Student Ministry.
- These requirements begin on October 1st!
Please note that we are aware that Straughn goes back to school on the 4th and I have already made arrangements with the principals for an excused absence for any Straughn students who go on the trip. Andalusia does not go back to school until January 8th.

RECOMMENDED READING FOR CHRISTIAN GROWTH
"LIVING GRACE"During his twenty-plus years in ministry, author Wayne Barber has seen believers try to do what they will never be able to do. They never seem to get over the frustration Paul expressed in Romans when he said" when I want to do good, I don't... when I try to not do wrong, I do it anyway." Wayne Barber believes this ongoing struggle is due to a lack of real heart understanding (not just mental ascent) when it comes to understanding grace. Grace is not merely a salvation ingredient, but an ongoing requirement for Christian living.
PASTOR'S CORNER- SEPTEMBER 2006
As you have probably noticed, the newsletter format changed this month! This change was needed in order for Amy to be able to use the folding machine to prepare the newsletter for mailing. The USPS has guidelines on how bulk mailings may be folded. In order to use the previous format, only one of the folds necessary could be made with the folding machine. Because this will change our ability to include the calendar you are used to getting in the newsletter, we will profide the church calendars in the Sunday School classes and in the Sanctuary at the beginning of each new month so you will still have the full sized one for your use at home. Thanks for your understanding as we try to be more efficient in the use of time spent in preparing newsletters.
By now, the new Sunday School year has gotten off to a great start! I want to encourage everyone to be faithful to attend Bible study and worship every Sunday. Your Sunday School class is the primary place in the church to build relationships and to fellowship. We have many wonderful teachers committed to teaching God's Word. Please make every effort to be in attendance and to bring someone with you. Not only is Sunday School the most effective place for fellowship, but it provides the most natural avenue for evangelism. The key is for us to come and to bring out unchurched and unsaved friends with us. Notice the results God provided to the early church as it followed the pattern of teaching, fellowship, and evangelistm (Acts 2:42; 46-47):
They were continually devoting themselves to the apostle's teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Day by day continueing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together and with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved. With a Glad and Sincere Heart,
Bro. Barry
CHILDREN'S DEPARTMENT
If you have children who are under the age of 12, please be sure you have filled out a children's department information sheet on your child. This information will help your children's Sunday School teacher(s) know more about your child and your child's needs. If you have any questions or concerns, of if you have any new ideas to share, please contact our new Children's Department director, Melanie Day. We are very excited to have Melanie step up for the challenge of making our children's department function smoothly for everyone's enjoyment for the new church year.
Blank information sheets can be picked up from the table at the entrance of the Sanctuary or from the bulletin board in the hallway in front of the nursery entrance.
FALL FESTIVAL 2006
Fall is just around the corner, hopefully along with some milder temperatures! We are going to begin the process of making big plans for this year's fall festival. To get things kick-started, we will begin to collect donations of bags of candy for our fall festival. You may drop your candy off in the church office or in the plastic containers in the foyer of the sanctuary. Please bring bags of individually wrapped candies. Thank you!
