Yesterday, the headlines on the Fox News internet site read, "Thou shall not stay." This is an obvious jab from a usually conservative news source regarding the recent court debate involving Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore and the Ten commandments monument at the Justice Building in Montgomery. As you may know by now, the monument was moved yesterday amidst the protests of Christians across our nation, many of them still gathered on the steps of the Justice Building at this very moment.
As Christians, we should not be surprised that our government wants to remove any mention of God from the public sector. We should be saddened, but not surprised. It is truly tragic that a nation founded on the Judeo-Christian ethic derived directly from these Ten Commandments is so totally opposed to even an acknowledgement of the God who gave them. These truly are events characteristic of the last days. Jesus said in Matthew 24:12, "And because lawlessness is increased, most people's love will grow cold." Indeed, we live in cold nation that has lost it's love for God. The disdain our nation has for God and His laws demonstrates this lack of love in an undisputable fashion. Let us pray for God to restore our nation to it's historic foundations of trust in God and His Word.
While we may be saddened by these recent events, let us be encouraged by what the Bible says. Galatians 6:7 says, "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap." I am sure that God is pleased by the efforts of Justice Moore and others who seek to defend His Word and our nation's right to acknowledge Him. I am also reminded by the words of scripture that God will ultimately judge those who deny or mock Him. Isaiah said, "The grass withers, and the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever." Amen! His Word stands forever, whether or not it stands in the rotunda of the Justice Building in Montgomery.
